정종호 교수는 서울대학교 국제대학원 교수로 재직 중이며, 서울대학교에서 국제대학원장, 국제협력본부장, 중국연구소 소장, 발전기금 이사를 역임하였고, 외부활동으로는 현대중국학회 회장, 중국 북경대학교 방문학자, 미국 하바드 옌칭 연구소 방문학자, 재단법인 한국고등교육재단 이사, 최종현학술원 이사, 플라톤 아카데미 이사 등을 역임하였으며, 현재 서울연구원 이사장으로도 활동하고 있다. 중국의 도시화와 농민공 문제, 사영기업가와 시민사회, 소프트파워 등을 연구하였으며, 개혁기 중국의 국가-사회관계 변화가 주요 연구분야이다.
